To verify your site with Google Search Console, you may need to set up a TXT record.

  • If you are using OPTION 1 on this page, please copy the required TXT record and email it to us. Do not take a screen capture. We will also need to know your domain name and store name to be able to do this for you.

  • If you are using OPTION 2 or OPTION 3 on this page, please do this through your external DNS provider.

Using the meta tag option to verify

You are also able to choose the "Meta tag" verification method, and copy the meta tag that Google provides you with. You can find this option under the 'Alternate methods' tab. Click on the 'Add a meta tag to your site's home page' option.

When you click on the meta tag option, you will see a verification tag that looks something like this

<meta name="google-site-verification" content="DxdtZ0dedtoie6fstevwvliZ4nTSiQULQgPq58sSfrk" />

You will need to copy this meta tag into the "Theme.liquid" file as described below.

Log in to your Spiffy Toolbox, and go to the "Theme editor" section.

In the theme editor, click on the "Theme.liquid" file to edit it.

Paste the meta tag that Google provided you with immediately after the <head> tag, and then click the save button.

Back in Google's Webmaster tools, click the "Verify" button, and your site should verify properly.

Please note that your store needs to be unlocked to be able to verify, as the "coming soon" page does not include your meta tag. You can unlock your store in the Preferences -> General Settings -> Password protect access to your store section of your store's Toolbox.

Verifying your site in Bing

The process for verifying your site in Bing is almost identical to Google. Bing also has an option to add a meta tag to your site's home page, and you copy the meta tag and paste it right after the meta tag for Google in your Theme.liquid file.

Please note that your store needs to be unlocked to be able to verify, as the "coming soon" page does not include your meta tag. You can unlock your store in the Preferences -> General Settings -> Password protect access to your store section of your store's Toolbox.

If you also want to add the Bing UET code to your site, you copy their code, and paste it in to your Theme.liquid file immediately after the <body> tag.

Verifying your site in Pinterest

The process for verifying your site in Pinterest is the same as it is with Google and Bing. Pinterest also has an option to add a meta tag to your site's home page, and you copy the meta tag and paste it right after the meta tag for Google or Bing in your Theme.liquid file.

Step 1. Get the meta tag from Pinterest

  1. Click your name at the top of Pinterest and click Your Profile and Pins
  2. Click the pencil icon
  3. Add your website and click Verify Website
  4. Click Verify with a meta tag

Step 2. Add the meta tag to your store

  1. Copy the meta tag from the verification box in Pinterest
  2. In your theme editor, click on the "Theme.liquid" file to edit it.
  3. Paste the meta tag immediately after the <head> tag, and then click the save button.

Step 3. Finish verifying

  1. Go back to Pinterest
  2. Click Complete Verification. Pinterest will then automatically check the meta tag and verify your site.

Please note that your store needs to be unlocked to be able to verify, as the "coming soon" page does not include your meta tag. You can unlock your store in the Preferences -> General Settings -> Password protect access to your store section of your store's Toolbox.

Adding the Facebook Pixel

The process for adding the Facebook pixel is the same as it is with other social media. Facebook also has an option to add a meta tag to your site's home page, and you copy the meta tag and paste it right after the meta tag for Google or Bing in your Theme.liquid file.

Step 1. Get the code from Facebook

  1. Go to your Pixels tab in Events Manager.
  2. Click Create a Pixel.
  3. Click Create in the box that appears to finish creating your pixel.

Step 2. Add the code to your store

  1. Copy the pixel code from Facebook
  2. In your theme editor, click on the "Theme.liquid" file to edit it.
  3. Paste the code immediately before the </head> tag, and then click the save button.

Step 3. Check that your code's working correctly

  1. Go back to Facebook
  2. Click Send Test Traffic after placing the code on your website to make sure your pixel's working properly. If your status says "Active", your base code has been installed correctly. This can take several minutes to update.

Please note that your store needs to be unlocked to be able to verify, as the "coming soon" page does not include your meta tag. You can unlock your store in the Preferences -> General Settings -> Password protect access to your store section of your store's Toolbox.
