(Redirected from How to verify your site in Google's Webmaster Central)

For your site to show up in Google, you will often have to submit it to Google. This process will take you only a few minutes, but can often speed up the process of showing up in Google. It can take anything from 1 to 30 days before you start showing in search results, so you should also ensure you get the word out by posting links to your site on social media.

To verify your site with Google Search Console, you will need to use the "URL Prefix" option.

  1. Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
  2. Depending on where you end up, you may need to log in to Google. Once logged in, click "Add Property".
  3. Choose "URL Prefix" for the property type.
  4. Enter your full domain including the
    https://www.
part, so it will look like this
    https://www.yourdomain.com.au
    .
  5. Click continue.
  6. Choose the "HTML TAG" verification method, and copy the tag.
  7. Log into your store's admin area, and go to the Preferences -> General Settings section.
  8. Scroll down to the "Site Verification" section, and paste your tag in the "Google Site Verification (HTML Meta Tag)" box.
  9. Click "Save Settings".
  10. Back in Google's Search Console, click the "Verify" button, and your site should verify properly.

Once you have done this, you should add your sitemap to Search Console. You will find the address of your store's sitemap in the Marketing -> Promote Your Store section of your store's admin.

Please note that your store needs to be unlocked to be able to verify, as the "coming soon" page does not include your meta tag. You can unlock your store in the Preferences -> General Settings -> Password protect access to your store section of your store's Toolbox.
