Spiffy Stores gives you a free xxx.spiffystores.com style domain for your store. For some customers this is enough, but many customers want the extra aesthetics and recognition value that comes from a real www.mystore.com style address.

Registering a new domain name

If you want to register your own domain name, we recommend ordering it through Domain Hosting Shop at http://www.domainhostingshop.com.au

When you're placing your order, there should be a comments field in the checkout there. If you add a comment such as "This is for use in my Spiffy Store at xxxx.spiffystores.com" then the domain name will be delegated to the Spiffy Stores nameservers and you'll be ready to go!

Using an existing domain name that you've registered

There are two ways that you can use your own domain name in your Spiffy Store. The first is by using a DNS entry called a CNAME record, and the second is by re-delegating to the Spiffy Stores name servers.

Using a CNAME Record

You will need to find out from your domain registrar how you can add DNS entries to your domain. Unfortunately the process to set this up is somewhat difficult because many domain registrars don't offer support for such setups.

Your CNAME record should point to your store domain e.g. yourstore.spiffystores.com

It should look something like this...

name ttl class rr canonical name
www 14400 IN CNAME yourstore.spiffystores.com.

You will then need to set up a redirect from your domain without the "www" to your domain with the "www".

For example, you will need to redirect "yourdomain.com" to "www.yourdomain.com"

When you have set up your CNAME record, simply add the domain name you have created to the DNS & Domains section of your store toolbox. This can also be done using sub-domains of your main domain. e.g. store.yourdomain.com

Re-delegating to the Spiffy Store Name Servers

Re-delegating to the Spiffy Stores Servers is a lot easier, and also gives you the advantage of being able to use the included email addresses that come with your Spiffy Stores plan. To re-delegate to the Spiffy Stores Name Servers, log in to the domain management area at your domain registrar and set your name servers to the following;

Nameserver 1: ns0.spiffy.com.au (202.60.88.94)

Nameserver 2: ns1.spiffy.com.au (202.60.88.158)

Nameserver 3: ns2.spiffy.com.au (202.60.88.159)

When you have re-delegated to our servers, simply add your domain name to the DNS & Domains section of your store toolbox. You will also need to send us an email at support@spiffystores.com to let us know you've added your domain, so we can verify that the store settings are correct,

After your domain has been re-delegated, You can then set up your email. More information on Setting up your email

After you've set up your mailboxes, you can also use Gmail to handle your mail if you prefer. Please refer to Google's instructions on how to set this up.

Your Primary Domain

When you have more than one domain for your store, you can specify one of them to be your primary domain. This distinction is used in various ways within your Spiffy Store. For instance, customers are redirected to your primary domain after they have completed a checkout.
